The Snowflake That Never Melted
What was a paper snowflake doing on the bedroom window, when it never melted at all?

What was a paper snowflake doing on the bedroom window, when it never melted at all? All night long, Atharva and Ashi had watched it glitter in the moonlight, and when morning came, there it still was, crisp and white and perfect.
Ashi: "It should have melted by now!"
Atharva: "Unless it is not real snow at all."
Very gently, so as not to tear it, Atharva lifted the snowflake from the glass. It was paper, folded and snipped into lacy stars, with one tiny letter tucked in a corner, the letter M. Then Ashi pressed his nose to the window and gasped.
Ashi: "Look! There is another one!"
Atharva: "And another! They are leading somewhere!"
Out on Maple Street, paper snowflakes glittered on Missus Hart's window, on Mister Thompson's gate, and all along the garden fence, like a trail of tiny white stars. The brothers followed them, crunching through autumn leaves, until the trail stopped at the little pavilion in Willow Park.
Atharva: "Someone has been here, folding snowflakes."
Ashi: "And I think we are about to meet them."
There, on a wooden bench, sat a shy boy with a pile of white paper, scissors, and a whole flurry of finished snowflakes beside him. He looked up, his cheeks turning pink, and tucked his scissors behind his back as if he had been caught doing something wonderful.
Milo: "I am Milo. I just moved here."
Atharva: "Did you fold all these snowflakes?"
Milo: "Every single one."
Milo told them how, in the town where he used to live, snow fell thick and soft all winter long, and he missed it so much. Here it hardly ever snowed, so he folded paper snowflakes and left them on windows, like little hellos, because he was too shy to knock on a door.
Milo: "I was too shy to knock."
Ashi: "But your snowflakes knocked for you!"
That very afternoon, the brothers helped Milo hang his snowflakes on every porch on Maple Street, and one by one, the neighbors came out to look. Missus Hart clapped her hands, Mister Thompson tipped his hat, and the whole street sparkled white, as if snow had come just for Milo.
Missus Hart: "Why, this street has never looked so snowy!"
Milo: "You really noticed them?"
Atharva: "Everyone noticed, Milo."
Then Milo sat on the brothers' porch with hot cocoa and warm ginger biscuits, teaching Atharva and Ashi to fold their very own snowflakes. Paper scraps fluttered everywhere, everyone was laughing, and Milo did not look shy at all anymore. He looked, at last, right at home.
Milo: "Will you be my friends?"
Ashi: "We already are!"
And that is tonight's secret: the smallest gift, made with love, can warm a whole street, and inviting a shy new friend inside is the warmest gift of all. So if you ever feel too shy to knock, remember Milo, and let a little kindness knock for you.
But wait, what is that tiny blue lantern glowing in the garden shed, when nobody lit it at all? Tune in tomorrow for another adventure! Good night, sleep tight. And keep learning, and subscribe to A two Quest dot com.
