The Lost Wallet at Willow Park
What would you do if you found a treasure hiding under the playground slide?

What would you do if you found a treasure hiding under the playground slide? One windy Saturday, little Ashi was zooming down the tall slide at Willow Park when something shiny caught his eye in the wood chips below. He dug it out with both hands and gasped. It was a wallet! A real, grown-up, leather wallet. And it felt full.
Ashi's eyes went wide.
Ashi: "Ice cream! Candy! A new toy car!" (whispering, hugging the wallet tight)
His big brother Atharva knelt beside him in the wood chips.
Atharva: "Hold on, Ashi," (gently)
Atharva: "Someone lost this. Remember what Mom says? If it isn't yours, it belongs to someone who misses it."
Ashi's smile wobbled. The wallet suddenly felt very heavy.
Slowly, the brothers peeked inside. There were a few dollar bills, and something much more precious. A small photograph of a smiling old man holding a little girl on his shoulders. Tucked beside it was a library card.
Atharva: "Mister Thompson." (reading the name out loud)
Ashi: "That's the man who walks Biscuit!" (crying out)
Ashi: "The golden dog!"
Ashi: "But the money," (softly, staring at the dollar bills)
Ashi: "We could buy two giant ice cream cones."
Atharva put a hand on his little brother's shoulder.
Atharva: "Close your eyes,"
Atharva: "Imagine losing your favorite teddy bear, and nobody gives it back. How would that feel?"
Ashi squeezed his eyes shut.
Ashi: "Awful," (whispering)
Atharva: "Then we find Mister Thompson," (smiling)
Atharva: "Right now."
The brothers raced across the park, past the swings, around the duck pond.
Atharva and Ashi: "Mister Thompson! Mister Thompson!" (calling)
At last, near the old oak bench, they spotted him, a kind-faced old man with silver hair, patting his empty pockets again and again, his golden dog Biscuit sniffing the ground beside him.
Ashi: "He's looking for it!" (gasping)
Ashi: "Just like we'd look for teddy!"
Ashi ran up and held the wallet high.
Ashi: "Mister Thompson! Is this yours?"
The old man's face lit up like sunrise.
Mister Thompson: "My wallet! Oh, thank you, boys!"
He hugged it to his chest.
Mister Thompson: "This photo is my granddaughter Lily. She lives far away, and this wallet was her birthday gift to me. Losing it felt like losing a piece of her."
Mister Thompson pulled out the dollar bills.
Mister Thompson: "For your honesty," (beaming)
Atharva shook his head.
Atharva: "Honest hearts don't need paying, sir."
The old man laughed a warm, crinkly laugh.
Mister Thompson: "Then at least let me buy you both ice cream!"
As they licked their cones, he whispered,
Mister Thompson: "And tomorrow, Biscuit turns seven. Come to our backyard birthday party. You're both invited!"
And so the brothers learned that honesty means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, because an honest heart is the greatest treasure of all. Tomorrow night, Atharva and Ashi are going to a birthday party, for a dog! You won't want to miss it. Good night, sleep tight. And keep learning, and subscribe to A two Quest dot com.
The lesson: Honesty means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, because an honest heart is the greatest treasure of all.
