The Little Bird Who Fell From the Nest
Have you ever heard a tiny cry that made your heart skip a beat?

Have you ever heard a tiny cry that made your heart skip a beat? One breezy evening, Atharva and Ashi were helping Missus Hart water her garden when they heard it. A soft, trembling peep, peep, peep, coming from under the big oak tree. Something small and helpless was calling for help, and nobody could see where it was coming from.
They followed the sound on tiptoes. Under the oak's twisted roots sat a tiny baby sparrow, no bigger than a pine cone, with soft gray feathers all fluffed up. One wing was drooping a little. Above them, a mommy sparrow was circling the branch, calling down in a worried voice. Ashi's eyes went wide.
Ashi: "Oh no," (whispering)
Ashi: "She fell out of her nest!"
Missus Hart hurried over with her watering can.
Missus Hart: "Well, bless my soul," (kneeling beside the brothers)
Missus Hart: "Atharva, grab the small basket from my porch. Ashi, fetch a soft towel."
Quick as a flash, the boys were off. The mother sparrow kept fluttering above them, and Atharva spoke to her gently.
Atharva: "Don't worry, little mama. We're here to help your baby."
Ashi laid the soft towel in the basket, fluffing it like a cozy little nest. Missus Hart showed Atharva how to cup his hands and lift the baby sparrow ever so gently. Her tiny heart was beating like a drum. Peep! Peep! The mommy sparrow landed on the branch just above, watching every move with her bright, worried eyes.
Missus Hart brought a little dish of water and some soft crumbs from her kitchen.
Missus Hart: "Remember, boys," (with a kind smile)
Missus Hart: "we must be gentle and patient. Wild babies need their real mamas, not ours."
So the brothers placed the basket high in the oak tree, where the nest had been, and stepped far, far back to wait.
Minutes. Felt like hours. Ashi squeezed his brother's hand.
Ashi: "What if she doesn't come?" (whispering)
Atharva: "Shhh," (pointing up)
The mommy sparrow was hopping closer, closer, closer along the branch. She tilted her head, chirped a question, and the baby answered, Peep! Peep! The whole garden seemed to hold its breath.
Then, with a joyful flutter of wings, the mommy sparrow swooped right into the basket! She tucked the baby under her warm feathers and fed her a tiny crumb, while the brothers danced with happiness on the grass. Missus Hart wiped a happy tear.
Missus Hart: "You two did a wonderful thing."
Missus Hart: "Kindness to every creature, big and small, is what makes this world beautiful."
And so Atharva and Ashi learned that every creature matters, from the tiniest sparrow to the tallest tree, and that being gentle with nature is one of the kindest things you can do. Tomorrow night, the brothers are visiting the old mill pond, where someone leaves mysterious ripples in the water! Good night, sleep tight. And keep learning, and subscribe to A two Quest dot com.
