The Lantern Boat on Willow Creek
Who set a glowing boat sailing down Willow Creek — when nobody was on the banks?

Who set a glowing boat sailing down Willow Creek — when nobody was on the banks? At dusk, Atharva and Ashi raced to the creek and gasped. A tiny paper boat was drifting on the water, and inside it glowed a little lantern, warm as a firefly. It bobbed and twirled all by itself. But the banks were empty. Not a single person in sight.
The little boat was floating straight toward the old fallen branch that stretched across the creek.
Ashi: "It's going to get stuck!" (crying)
The brothers ran along the bank, their shadows long in the golden light. The boat bumped softly against the branch — and stopped. Its tiny lantern flickered, as if the little boat were scared.
Ashi leaned far out over the water and grabbed for the boat — too fast! His sleeve caught the paper sail. Riiip! A long tear split the sail, and the lantern wobbled dangerously. Ashi froze. His tummy tied itself into a knot.
Ashi: "Oh no," (whispering)
Ashi: "I broke it. Don't tell anyone. Let's just... leave it."
Atharva looked at his little brother's worried face.
Atharva: "When we break something, hiding it only makes the knot tighter," (gently)
Atharva: "The brave thing is to tell the truth — and then fix it together."
Ashi took a big shaky breath.
Ashi: "Okay," (squeaking)
Ashi: "I tore the sail. I'm sorry, little boat."
And just like that, the knot in his tummy loosened.
Back home, the brothers laid the little boat on the porch table. Atharva fetched tape while Ashi picked the biggest, greenest leaf in the garden.
Atharva and Ashi: "A leaf sail!" (cheering)
They taped the leaf where the torn paper had been, straight and strong. The lantern glowed steady again — and tucked inside the boat, they found a tiny folded note.
The note was written in wobbly letters:
Atharva: "I wish someone would play boats with me. Love, Theo." (reading the note aloud)
Atharva: "Who's Theo?"
Just then, the blue house's front door opened — and out stepped a boy about their age, visiting his grandpa Mister Calloway for the weekend.
Ashi: "That's Theo!" (grinning)
Ashi: "He set the boat afloat — too shy to ask anyone to play!"
The brothers marched up to the blue house with the mended boat.
Atharva: "Theo, we have to tell you the truth,"
Atharva: "Ashi tore your sail — but we fixed it with a leaf!"
Theo's eyes went wide... then he burst out laughing.
Theo: "It's even better now! It has a leaf sail AND a story!"
He pulled two more paper boats from his pocket.
Theo: "Will you sail them with me?"
So the three friends set three lantern boats sailing down Willow Creek, while Mister Calloway hummed his happy song. And the brothers learned something big: when you make a mistake, telling the truth is the bravest way to fix it. But as they waved goodnight, they spotted a single red mitten on their front step — with no match anywhere on Maple Street! Tune in tomorrow for another adventure! Good night, sleep tight.
