The Lady on Maple Street
An old lady lived all alone in the little blue house on Maple Street…

On a quiet street called Maple Street, there stood a small blue house with a garden full of wildflowers. An old lady lived there all alone. Her name was Missus Hart. She was 82 with silver hair in a soft bun, and she always wore a warm shawl even in summer. Every evening, a little lamp
glowed in her window like a tiny star. In that same street, lived two brothers, Atharva and little Ashwat, whom everyone called Ashi. The grownups had told them to stay away from the blue house.
The grownups: "She is grumpy." (whispering)
The grownups: "She likes her quiet."
So, the brothers walked past quickly, never stopping, never waving. One Saturday,
the whole street held a big summer picnic in the park. There were burgers, lemonade, and games, and everyone was invited. Everyone except Missus Hart. Nobody remembered to invite her. From across the street, little Ashi saw her sitting all alone on her porch, watching the happy crowd from far away. Ashi's heart felt heavy like
a stone in his pocket. He ran to Atharva.
Ashi: "She looks so lonely." (whispering)
So, the two brothers did something brave. Atharva filled a paper plate with food and a big chocolate cupcake, and Ashi carried a cup of lemonade with both hands so it would not spill. Together, they walked right up to the
blue house. Their knuckles had barely touched the door when it creaked open. There stood Missus Hart, and her eyes filled with happy tears.
Missus Hart: "Nobody has knocked on my door in years," (whispering)
Missus Hart: "Come in. Come in, my dears."
And just like that, the quiet little house did not feel quiet anymore. Her little kitchen
smelled of cinnamon. Mrs. Hart showed the brothers old photographs and told them wonderful stories of the town when she was a little girl. Of the big oak tree she used to climb and of the funny dog she once had who could do tricks. Atharva and Ashi laughed and listened until the sun went down.
The next morning, the brothers told all their friends about Mrs. Hart. And guess what? The whole street came to visit with cookies, flowers, and big smiles. Her porch was full of laughter again, and the little lamp in her window seemed to glow brighter than ever before. That night, as Atharva and Ashi drifted off
to sleep, they smiled. They had learned something precious. Old people are treasure chests full of stories, and a little kindness can light up someone's whole world. So, remember, little one, be kind to the grandparents and elders around you. Visit them. Listen to their stories and share your smile. Good night, sleep tight, and keep learning and subscribe to a2quest.com.
